Terms & Conditions

Effective date: 14 April 2026
Last updated: 14 April 2026
Jurisdiction: United Kingdom

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using Carteo's services. By engaging our service, submitting your menu content, or making a payment, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.

1. About Carteo

Carteo is a fully managed digital menu service for restaurants and food businesses, operating at carteo.co.uk and based in the United Kingdom.

These terms form the legal agreement between Carteo ("we", "us", "our") and the business or individual using our service ("you", "the client").

For any questions regarding these terms, contact us at hello@carteo.co.uk.

2. The service

Carteo provides a fully managed digital menu service. This includes, depending on the plan selected:

  • Design of a digital menu based on content you provide
  • Translation of menu content into selected languages
  • Hosting of your digital menu on our domain or your own domain
  • Generation and delivery of a QR code for guest access
  • Ongoing minor updates to menu content within the allowance of your plan
  • Support via WhatsApp during business hours

The exact features available to you depend on the plan you have selected (Essential or Pro). Details of each plan are described on our website and confirmed at the time of purchase.

We reserve the right to modify, improve or update our service at any time. We will notify you of any material changes that affect your plan.

3. Getting started

To use Carteo, you must:

  • Be a business owner, manager or authorised representative of a food business
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide accurate and complete information when contacting us or submitting content
  • Ensure that any content you provide to us does not infringe any third-party rights

Our service is intended for business use only. We do not provide services to private individuals for personal use.

Your digital menu will be live once we have received your content, completed the design and set up hosting. We aim to complete this within 3–5 working days of receiving all required materials. This is an estimate and not a contractual guarantee.

4. Your content

You retain full ownership of the content you provide to us — including your menu text, prices, descriptions, images, logos and brand assets ("your content").

By submitting your content to us, you grant Carteo a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, display and adapt your content solely for the purpose of designing, building and maintaining your digital menu.

You are responsible for ensuring that:

  • All content you provide is accurate, up to date and lawful
  • You have the right to use any images, logos or other materials you submit
  • Your menu content complies with all applicable laws, including food labelling and allergen regulations

Carteo is not responsible for the accuracy of menu content, pricing, allergen information or any other details provided by you. It is your responsibility to ensure your menu is correct before and after publication.

Important: UK food law requires menus to clearly declare the 14 major allergens. It is your legal responsibility as a food business to ensure this information is accurate and displayed correctly. Carteo will include allergen information as you provide it but accepts no liability for omissions or errors in this data.

5. Payments & billing

Carteo operates on a subscription basis. The following payment terms apply:

  • First month free — your first month of service is provided free of charge, with no card required at sign-up.
  • Monthly billing — if you choose to continue, you will be billed monthly at the rate of your selected plan.
  • Annual billing — annual plans are billed upfront for the full year at a discounted rate.
  • Pricing — current plan prices are displayed on our website. Prices are in GBP and are subject to change with reasonable notice.
  • Late payment — failure to pay may result in suspension or termination of your digital menu service.

All prices are exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated. Where applicable, VAT will be added at the prevailing rate.

Add-on services (such as extra languages, redesigns or additional updates) are charged separately and agreed on a per-request basis before work begins.

6. Updates & changes to your menu

Each plan includes a set number of update requests per month:

  • Essential — 2 update requests per month
  • Pro — 5 update requests per month

One update request is defined as one batch of changes submitted together in a single message. This may include price changes, text edits, image replacements or other minor modifications.

Updates that require structural redesign, significant layout changes or additional languages are not included in the standard update allowance and will be quoted separately.

Unused update allowances do not roll over to the following month.

We aim to complete update requests within 1–3 working days of receipt. This is an estimate and not a contractual guarantee.

7. Cancellation & termination

Cancellation by you: You may cancel your Carteo subscription at any time by contacting us at hello@carteo.co.uk.

  • Monthly subscribers: cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial months.
  • Annual subscribers: cancellation takes effect at the end of the annual billing period. Annual plans are non-refundable once the plan has been activated, except where required by law.

Upon cancellation, your digital menu will be taken offline at the end of your paid period.

Termination by Carteo: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your service immediately if:

  • You breach these Terms & Conditions
  • You fail to make payment when due
  • Your content is found to be unlawful, harmful or in violation of third-party rights
  • We reasonably believe continued service would expose us or others to legal risk

Where possible, we will provide notice before terminating your service and give you the opportunity to resolve the issue.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Carteo service to publish, display or distribute content that:

  • Is false, misleading or deceptive
  • Infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party
  • Violates any applicable law or regulation
  • Is defamatory, offensive, discriminatory or harmful
  • Contains malicious code, viruses or other harmful software

We reserve the right to refuse to publish or to remove any content that we deem to be in violation of these terms or otherwise inappropriate, without prior notice.

9. Intellectual property

Your content: You retain all rights to the content you provide. We do not claim ownership of your menu items, descriptions, images or brand assets.

Our work: The design, layout, code and structure of your digital menu as created by Carteo remains the intellectual property of Carteo until full payment has been received for the relevant billing period. Upon cancellation, design assets created specifically for you may be provided on request at our discretion.

Our brand: The Carteo name, logo and website content are owned by Carteo and may not be used without our written permission.

10. Liability

Carteo provides its service with reasonable care and skill. However, to the fullest extent permitted by UK law:

  • We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or available at all times
  • We are not liable for any loss of business, revenue, profits or data arising from your use of the service
  • We are not liable for the accuracy of content you provide, including allergen information, prices or descriptions
  • Our total liability to you in any circumstance is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.

As our service is provided to businesses, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 does not apply to our agreement.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a notice on our website, and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Your continued use of the Carteo service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you may cancel your subscription before they take effect.

12. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or our service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We will always try to resolve any dispute informally in the first instance. Please contact us at hello@carteo.co.uk before pursuing formal action.
